Mission
The Center for Medical Education Research and Scholarship (CMERS) advances the science and practice of health professions education through rigorous research, innovation and scholarly collaboration. We empower educators, researchers, and learners to transform teaching, learning, and assessment in medical education and beyond. Promoting evidence-based approaches, we aim to improve educational outcomes and advance excellence at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and across the health sciences.

Our Approach
We support faculty and trainees through research design consultation, methodologic support, and connection with resources, such as the Institute for Clinical Research Education (ICRE). We facilitate educational research networks, host learning communities, and run targeted initiatives like faculty fellowships and a pilot grant program.
Partnerships
CMERS collaborates with
- the ICRE and its certificate, MS, and PhD programs in Health Professions Education;
- the Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators (ADME), including the MIME mentoring consult service;
- the Health Sciences Library System; and
- faculty across Pitt Med.
