Vik Meadows, a postdoctoral researcher, School of Medicine, is a grant recipient from the Postdoctoral Diversity Enrichment Program (PDEP) through the Burroughs Wellcome Fund. Meadows was one of a cohort of 30 researchers from  across the country announced on June 15, 2025.

Under her mentor, Paul Monga, SVC Professor of Pathobiology and Therapeutics, and professor of pathology and of medicine, School of Medicine, Meadows received support for her project, “A Tale of Two Organs: Understanding How the Liver Regulates Intestine and Microbiota in Cholestatic Liver Disease.” Her team studies how hepatocytes, the most numerous liver cells, can transform into bile duct cells to help repair damage, which may lead to new treatments for primary sclerosing cholangitis, a rare disease that harms the cells lining the liver’s bile ducts.

“The Burroughs Wellcome Fund Postdoctoral Diversity Enrichment Program provides me with the necessary support to combine my previous training with my ongoing work in the Monga lab at the Organ Pathobiology and Therapeutics Institution,” Meadows said. “By funding my research, the PDEP will help increase the impact of my research in the fields of hepatology and gastroenterology and provides an avenue to pursue new ideas based on my work.”
