The American Heart Association of Greater Pittsburgh named Samir Saba, professor of medicine and chief of the Division of Cardiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, the recipient of the 2026 Peter J. Safar Pulse of Pittsburgh Award. The award, celebrating a lifelong commitment to advancing heart health in Western Pennsylvania, was presented at the Pittsburgh Heart Ball on Friday, April 17, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
The Peter J. Safar Pulse of Pittsburgh Award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated exceptional leadership in the fight against heart disease and stroke. Honorees have made significant contributions to medical science, shown a deep commitment to the American Heart Association’s mission and exemplified excellence and leadership in advancing cardiovascular health.
Saba, a nationally recognized cardiologist and cardiac electrophysiologist, is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of physicians and advancing public health initiatives aligned with the American Heart Association’s goals. His work reflects a patient-centered approach that bridges scientific discovery and compassionate care.
“Caring for patients has always been the most meaningful and motivating part of my professional life, shaping my commitment to research and education as ways to better serve those who entrust us with their care,” said Saba, who is also codirector of the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute.
