School of Medicine
Professional Medicine (M.D.)

The Professional Medicine degree program (M.D.) consists of a core curriculum for the first two years. There are five subject areas (Blocks) : Patient, Physician & Society; Scientific Reasoning in Medicine; Fundamentals of Basic Science; Organ System Pathophysiology; and Introduction to Patient Care. Each Block includes multiple Sections and each Section has one or more courses. The official transcript grade is assigned and recorded by Section. Students will receive a grade for each course and those Sections consisting of more than one course will have a combined final transcript grade. How this grade is determined will be explained in the course syllabus. The first two years of the curriculum are graded as Honors/Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory. This grading structure is recorded on both the University transcript and documentation internal to the medical school. Below is an overview of the curriculum of the first two years. Course descriptions and other information is available at the Office of Medical Education website.
