I feel there's a real openness among the student body.

Pitt has a reputation for recruiting a diverse student body, not only in terms of race, or socio-economic indicators but there’s people from a lot of different backgrounds and interests here. Pitt brings in a lot of older, nontraditional students and it’s been really great meeting them because they just do all these crazy things that I could never have imagined people did before they went to medical school.

But other than that – I feel there’s a real openness among the student body – there’s not one person in this class that I would feel uncomfortable approaching and saying “hi” to them or just asking them “what’s up” – there’s a good mix of students from all over the country. There’s a lot of Pittsburghers who went off to college and are sort of coming home but there’s also a big contingency from California, and a mix of Ivy League and state schools. So people from all over.
