We get lots of early exposure to different specialists.

I’m really not entirely sure right now what my interest is as far as a medical specialization. I’m still looking at options. We get lots of early exposure to different specialists—whether it’s our PBL facilitators or in the ambulatory care setting. We’re all assigned to a FAST (faculty and students together working together) group. The program pairs one faculty member with two-second year students and four first year students. You go to dinner and social activities together. It’s great fun and you get to know second years – they’re sort of your connection to what’s going on and then you can talk to your faculty member about research opportunities. My FAST advisor is an ER doc—she’s amazing. I’ve shadowed her and really gotten to see what it’s like in the trauma unit.
