How to Apply
We encourage newly admitted students to apply as soon as possible after January 2, 2008 for maximum consideration. All students, including upperclassmen, should provide all required information (detailed below) no later than April 16, 2008. (Keep in mind that the FAFSA should be submitted prior to April 1st to ensure that your application results are available prior to the deadline, allowing the federal government processing time.) It is your responsibility to ensure that all materials are provided timely and prior to the deadline. Failure to do so jeopardizes your eligibility for some sources of financial aid. Applications received after April 16 will be considered in the order received, as funds remain available.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
You must complete a FAFSA or renewal FAFSA to be considered for any type of financial aid. If you do not have access to complete the FAFSA online, contact 1-800-4-FED-AID to request a paper form. Remember to include the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (FAFSA Code: E00516) so that we can receive your electronic FAFSA results. You are required to include your spouse’s information (if applicable). Parental information should also be provided if you wish to be considered for need-based resources from the school of medicine.
Need Access
If you wish to be considered for institutional need-based resources from the school of medicine, you must complete the Need Access Application in addition to the FAFSA. If you do not have access to complete the Need Access application online, contact our office to request a paper form. This application must include parental information along with your income and assets. If you are married, you must include your spouse’s income and asset information. If you parents are divorced or separated, each parent must submit information on the Need Access Application. In cases where a divorced parent has remarried, you have the option of using parent and stepparent. To ensure privacy, the information is password protected.
2007-2008 Verification of Income Information
All applicants must supply documentation of student’s income (and spouse’s income, if applicable). Students applying for need-based resources must also supply documentation of parental income.
- Student (& Spouse) Federal Income Tax Return(s), with signatures, including schedules and W2s (or Non-Filer Tax Statement)
- Parent(s) Federal Income Tax Return(s), with signatures, including schedules and W2s (or Non-Filer Tax Statement)
- Proof of any Untaxed Income for student and/or parent if applicable (such as Foreign Income, Social Security Benefits, Unemployment Compensation, etc.)
