Committed to Scholarship Support
Remember how simultaneously grueling and exhilarating medical school was? Intensive exams, exciting research breakthroughs, expensive textbooks and cheap dinners? For todays University of Pittsburgh medical student, some things have changed.
The cost of attending the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is now 20 times more than it was 30 years ago. The average Pitt medical student graduates with more than $125,000 of debt. Year-round curriculum demands make it difficult to secure part-time work. So to make ends meet, some students avoid buying textbooks, opting to share with others or borrow from the library. Other students just never apply, choosing instead a more lucrative career with less debt.

Students who do apply often choose a medical school based solely on the amount of aid they receive. During one of the most exciting times in medical history, the University of Pittsburgh cannot afford to lose the brightest students to peer institutions. We must increase scholarship support to a level that is competitive with that offered by our peer institutions to give Pitt the advantage in student recruitment.
We invite you to help us lessen the significant financial burden of todays Pitt med student by providing scholarship support. With your support, we will continue to recruit students who will lead us into the next era of medicine and retain our position as one of the nations leading medical schools.
